297145 2004-11-29 20:41:00 I found out what the problem was last night. I went through and systematically removed all the software I had installed. The last program I uninstalled was Zonelab's Zonealarm firewall. When I removed that I found stability. Just to check, I re-installed all the other software and drivers (checking stability at every point). When I installed Zonelabs again, the problem returned. Uninstall - problem gone. Problem solved. I'm now using Kerio's firewall, but it's not as easy to use as Zonelab's - I'll try the latest version of Zonealarm, but in case it doesn't work, can anyone recommend a good free firewall? Would anyone rely on the Windows Firewall built into SP2?

Cheers

297146 2004-11-29 20:49:00 SP2's firewall should be OK , until u find a better one. Well any firewall that picks up incoming and outgoing...

Your version of zonealarm may have been incompatible with SP2. The latest version might fix that.

297147 2004-12-31 20:27:00 i have this same exact problem. but the thing is... ive tryed to formatt and reinstall and it reboots... my pc reboot everytime "starting windows" comes up or "loading windows." but i can stay in bios allday and mess around and the pc will not reboot and i can stay in safe mode and the pc will not reboot. ive tryed removing drivers one by one and that does not seem to fix it either. i can not use mcAfee to scan for viruses cause it restarts half way through the scanning process. but how ever i can use website scanners and they will scan just fine and find no viruses. ive even went as far as unplugging all the hardware and power supplies and plugging them all back in.. and still nothing.. any ideas? hey dudes (6468)
