| 297469 | 2004-11-28 21:03:00 | Heya all, I am trying to solve some problems with a friends HDD, and need some technical assistance / recommendations. They downloaded a screensaver from freeze.com, which I believe has caused them all the current problems they are having. At this stage the computer does boot but does not give you the START menu under Windows XP Home. I currently have the HDD installed as a slave in another computer, and running adaware on it. It has frozen on the \windows\system32\config\systemprofile directory. What are the consequences of deleting this directory from the computer? If there a program that will allow me to regedit the slave drive, so that I can clean up any other freeze type entries? Thanks in advance |

I would put the prob hdd in back as master to do this. Does the start menu appear in Safe mode, if you've tried Safe mode? If u can manage to get into safe mode, and the Start menu is there, I would also go to start/run and type msconfig and then go to the startup tab see whats there. I dont think its a good idea to try and run regedit on a slave hdd. It may not work anyway. |
