297364 2004-11-28 19:36:00 i just reinstalled my computer to xp
i also installed msn 6.2 on it

when i log in and launch my msn, another older version gets launched first
then the new one would then sign it out and log in

i'm gussing the old one is the one that comes with xp
which i didn't remove or upgrade

is there a way to get rid of that?
or upgrade it properly...

297365 2004-11-28 19:47:00 Yup you're right the one that comes with XP is Windows Messenger 4.7

And it's totally hopeless/annoying.

Go here www.kellys-korner-xp.com
Then the bottom menu Utilities for XP. Select the right arrow and scroll down
to disable or remove Messenger from Windows and OE. Then click on
click here to download your selection.

Then run it.

297366 2004-11-29 02:22:00 Much easier way is to just to remove Windows Messenger manually, click Start, Run and enter the following command:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Note: This will prevent a long delay when opening Outlook Express if you have the Contacts pane enabled. To prevent this, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Right click in the right pane and select New, Dword value. Give it the name Hide Messenger Double click this new entry and set the value to 2.

297367 2004-11-29 02:30:00 Yep the other way will do the same and also saves u trying the entry in regedit. For ppl who have no idea how to use it. And kills Windows messenger totally.

You just have to reboot.
