297895 2004-11-29 22:05:00 Well I got an adapter for my power cable and inserted the SATA disk.
I restarted my computer and it immediately loaded windows. All my programs are there and no hitches. For once things worked out as I had hoped. Amazing.
After putting the lid on and arranging my desk I decided to take notice of the message. "Windows has been installed over the allowable limit. You have three days to re-activate"
I phoned MS and answered a few questions and copied the string of numbers. All done.
So now I have 160 gigs of SATA hard drive. 1024 megs of ram. All that needs changing now is a 250 watt PSU for my 350. At the moment I'm not brave enough to do it.
Thanks for all the help and sympathy I've received.
Jack

297898 2004-11-29 23:07:00 You realise by mearly opening the case youve probably voided your warrenty? Most of the major PC builders have very strict warrentys that mean only "qaulified" (i use that word lightly) technicians are allowed to open the PC. Pete O'Neil (250)
297899 2004-11-29 23:10:00 and are you sure that 250w can handle with a gig of ram ? noone (22)
297900 2004-11-29 23:12:00 'Warranty void if case opened' warranties are bollocks and they can't do anything to cancel your warranty.

Good to see you got your problem fixed Jack. :)

Is that a definitive comment based on fact, or just an opinion? I would have thought that if the EULA stats "warranty void if case is opened" they can void your warranty if you open the case.

Glad you got it working!

297902 2004-11-29 23:21:00 HP still have the concept of "End user repacable parts"
"End User Replaceable Parts (EURP) will be shipped directly to the customer and may include the fixed hard drive, all MultiBay devices, memory, keyboard, mouse and side skins. Removal and replacement Labour will only be provided for all other parts of the computer that require the chassis to be opened"

297903 2004-11-29 23:22:00 Godfather has mentioned it was challenged and found not to apply in NZ.

Godfather never talks out his arse.

They can if they can prove that you didn't take the correct precautions to protect the parts inside from static etc.
