297690 2004-11-29 05:24:00 Have problem in getting this onboard sound card working. Downloaded and installed the driver from the manufacturer's website but it doesn't work.

DriverTool Kit detected it as C-media AC'97 Audio Device and searched, downloaded and installed the drivers but still no good.

Motherboard: Biostar M7VIG Pro
OS: XP Pro

Any suggestions?

297691 2004-11-29 06:14:00 does the name of the soundcard appear in device manager?? Or does anything appear under sound under device manager yet? Spacemannz (808)

Yes . it is C-media AC97 Audio Device .

Quite a while ago by accident, installed this Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller and it worked fine . Remembered I was reinstalling XP on this beast and same problem, couldn't get the sound working after trying all the drivers and gave up . Then went on to install other application softwares and by pure accident, when rebooting the machine, it suddently detected new hardware and installed the above Realtek driver .

Because of some major problems with this machine, had to reformat and reinstall OS and unfortunately, now could not get the sound working .

Could it be hardware issue?

297693 2004-11-29 07:43:00 Umm if its already in device manager, and doesnt have any X, ? or other beside it, it should be working.

BUT If it isnt working I would delete it. Also, if there's an X or other beside the card, then it maybe conflicting. Is this onboard sound or a PCI soundcard??

Did you build this system yourself?? if so, the sound/lan drivers SHOULD be on the motherboard CD.

This pc belongs my neighbour next door. It's an old machine and he bought it second hand without any device drivers. :(

The strange thing is, the driver from the manufacturer's website doesn't work!

297695 2004-11-29 10:10:00 OK . And u went to a site similar to this

. biostar-usa . com/mbdownloads . asp?model=m7vig+pro" target="_blank">www . biostar-usa . com

And downloaded this?

ftp://ftp . biostar-usa . com/drivers/Audio/CI9739_512_WINXP . EXE

Nothing strange about an old pos sold without drivers having issues.

I would expect it.

Pirate copy of XP corp i would imagine as well?

What a deal....or steal.

I would say it will be a strange occurence if you manage to fix it,not that i imagine it would take moe then a small handfull of minutes to do so,.......or just cut to the chase and bung a $10 sound card in the old battleship.

297697 2004-11-29 10:16:00 Also, are you sure its the M7VIG Pro, and NOT the M7VIG Pro D??

Theyre different motherboards.

297698 2004-11-30 10:50:00 Finally, got the speakers making sweet and beautiful noises again after installing the Realtek driver downloaded from the net.

Thanks for all the suggestions and most important of all, your valuable time.

Cheers
