| 298487 | 2004-12-01 04:11:00 | Hey guys, my windoze (twothowsand) carashed last nite and I relinstalled it and all my applications and shite and I had already restarted but then I restarted to reinstate my firefox stuff and on rebooting it said NTDLR Missing So I booted into the recovery mode, tried to do an automatic recovery but it couldn't find my windows installation. So I went to the recovery console hit map and it showed that my partitions had changed around! I have two partitions but when reinstalling chopped my windows one down to 10Gig. This left an NTFS part along with a FAT32 part (my downloads drive). I had C:hda1, D:hdb1, and E:hda2... (used linux exp cos its easier) and somehow E: had been turned into C: and C: turned into E: .... So I booted partition magic up and saw that my windows partition and my unallocated space were logical partitions inside and extended one... So I cleared that up expecting it to be fixed but to no avail... Then I used the XP disk to get into the recovery console, and it has a few more options, I used bootcfg and added the E: drive to it, but still it doesn't work... Can anyone help.... this is an absolute bastard... somehow my computer must have known that I had orders to sort out, auctions to put on trademe, jobs to apply for and presents to make for my brother cos I was up until 5am this morning trying to fix th bastard!!! Cheers Willie_M |

| 298492 | 2004-12-01 23:56:00 | its often caused by the floopy / cd rom drive and the computer tries to boot from them and finds nothing bootable so dies ( the message ) | noone (22) | ||
| 298493 | 2004-12-02 00:38:00 | nope thats not the problem... I figured out it was the boot.ini file and ****... Rewrote it an reinstated it had a few more problems, managed to get into windows and changed the partitions around as well as successfully copied over the windows drive directories but now.... well.. now its doing this screwy as thing... I boot it up and it just sits there at the sumarry screen with the table and stuff... Its little cursor blinks and it does nothing... However say I've got the windows cd in and i dont choose to boot from it, after the key timeout ends it sits there, however now it show a red square in the centre of the screen with a sign like the female symbol in it... I'm fairly sure this is a boot sector virus but am unsure what to do next? |
