298247 2004-11-30 09:25:00 I´m after a dead simple, no frills but good quality audio recording program that records direct from the mic input on my flaptop .

I'm running Mandrake 10 which does seem to have a sound recording program built into the gnome desktop that doesn't seem to actually do anything . I need one that works . It will be used on a set and forget basis, recording several hours of live music at a time . It must also be simple and graphical, as my partner in audio work is even less computer savvy than me . :-)

Resonable quality is important too . If we capture a magic event, a CD may get released .

I dont care how big the files it produces are . theres about 15gig free in the /home partition, and i will keep it that way so we can do recordings, and then move the file sideways to another machine later .

As always, i am open to suggestions .

:-)

298248 2004-11-30 09:29:00 My first question would be - is it the sound recording software or the sound card that is not working? JohnD (509)
298249 2004-11-30 09:38:00 fair question.

Because i can play .oggs and stuff i ASSUMED that the sound card must be working.
The possability that the sound card is not a go creates new questions. Any ideas how i might check it?

298253 2004-11-30 19:31:00 Wow!
We got some serious options here, particularly for editing and so forth, but i think there's a point that i didn´t get across well enough.....

All i need now is to crudely RECORD the event. The person who presses the record button may be intimidated by any other options. Simple 2track input, record button, level controls, compression maybe, and a save as function is about all we will need to capture an event. Editing will happen later when the file has been transfered to a machine with more grunt and storage capacity. :-)

Perhaps at some later stage i shall build up a machine that sits in a rack with all the other toys we have for processing live sound, but for the next few events all we need to do is take the an output from the mixing desk, and record it. In the past we´ve done that with a hired DAT, but id rather do it with flappy than use dodgy hired gear and buy DAT tapes everytime.

So for now, does anyone have a SIMPLE as option?
I should mention, opening new windows etc tends to make the sound break up as my lappy lacks grunt. so watching the waves grow and similar features would probably be best avoided

298255 2004-11-30 21:45:00 Hey Chill....
Why this Krecipe thing?
Are you implying something here?
:p

¨The goal of this projects was to create a KDE Recipe Tool that:

Can manage a recipe database with an easy to use interface
Allows creation/removal of new ingredients and units
Helps with diets, calculating amount of calories, vitamines, carbohydrates... per recipe
Creates shopping lists, and daily suggestions for a given diet type
Is based on MySQL (1) so it could be possible to generate a KSN(2)¨

As you said, i´ll probably be wanting the second option!

298256 2004-11-30 23:41:00 Does the microphone appear on the sound mixer? Have you got a sound mixer? :D

I haven't tried recording ... all I do is make sure I can play CDs with cdp. ;-)
