298474 2004-12-01 09:16:00 So have you inserted a floppy drive into the case yet?

You said you wanted one to flash the BIOS.

298475 2004-12-01 09:50:00 Ummm Jack....

I really wouldn't attempt a BIOS update. You could easily destroy your motherboard by attempting such things. No offence intended, but reading your other thread[s]......

298476 2004-12-01 10:07:00 Brand name computers often use a "custom made" version of a common branded motherboard, with a matching "custom" BIOS.

This is done to enhance reliability and reduce warranty and service calls (read: limits the owners ability to fiddle with the settings - most have been removed)

Flashing with a "retail version" of the BIOS for (what you think is) that motherboard could be "interesting" in those circumstances. And likely fatal for the motherboard.

298477 2004-12-01 16:51:00 Flashing the bios was only a possibility. Before I understood what was what I thought some unwanted things were loading from bios. Since I've had it explained what the unwanteds are I have managed to get rid of them. Bios flashing is no longer on the agenda.
All I had to do was to "disable" the unwanteds in "device manager" . I had been trying to "uninstall". Of course windows was just "finding " them again.
Asus do have a "critical" bios update that I can not access. Page unavailable.
Only thing now I don't want is the HP "Splash Screen". I have got rid of it by changing to the post instead.
