298463 2004-11-30 20:13:00 LOL good point there theotherone . Someone should put a padlock on it somewhere .

Funny thing tho, that P4SD-LA doesnt appear on the Asus site that I can see . The bios stuff etc might be on an HP site somewhere tho .

BUT as JJJJ said not much use without a floppy .

Most ASUS mobos can flash from DOS or from a Windows based Liveupdate program . Even this one can .

298464 2004-11-30 20:18:00 It's not on the HP site either. I got the M/B make and model from "Everest" so I don't even know if that is correct.Google found a few references to it , but nothing of much use.

298465 2004-11-30 20:38:00 Umm it is on the HP site, if u go to http://www.hp.com and under search
u type P4SD-LA.

There's a few of them tho

P4SD-LA (Yale)

P4SD-LA (Cobra)

P4SD-LA PES (Oxford)

If u go here (it may not work).

h10025.www1.hp.com

I believe this is the BIOS page. Its different from other BIOS update, HP's BIOS updates are usually self extracting. And once u boot up on a floppy it does most of the work for you. The filename for the BIOS is SP26381.exe. Which is 1.08mb.

This is what it says, on this site.

Release Date: 2004-09-02 Version: 3.28 Description

This is a BIOS update for the P4SD-LA motherboard.

Purpose: Critical

Operating System:
Windows XP Home
Windows XP Professional
Windows XP Media Center Edition

Fixes
- Resolves Send/Don't Send error message.

- Resolves incorrect display of hard disk transfer mode after Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 installation.

- Updates Intel Microprocessor micro-code. If your BIOS says this version already, you wont need the update.

298466 2004-11-30 20:41:00 Oh looks like this update if u need it HP has been kind to let u flash it in Windows. So it says. U just have to reset the BIOS settings if u flash) once it has been updated with this BIOS update. Spacemannz (808)
298467 2004-11-30 21:10:00 internal fdd $20 - $30 [ if you have the space >? remove card reader and use that slot for the FDD]
external/ usb FDD $60 - $80 , however I think it's uncommon to be able to boot from a usb device , even a FDD

298468 2004-11-30 21:21:00 It is because of these sort of scenarios that I hate HP. agent_24 (4330)
298469 2004-12-01 03:37:00 FIXED!!!!
I have resolved my problems with unwanted accessories. Instead of trying to delete the unwanted items I have disabled them. They no longer try to run and they don't stick their icons everywhere. And believe it or not the computer is working twice as fast.
So for the moment, I'm happy.
Thanks to all for your help and advice,
Jack

Possibly not. Have you now figured out where the extra removable drives are?

Which in my opinion seems to be your main problem does it not? Your computer is slower than you thought it should be. Is that the case?

I am sitting here with a PC that has no floppy drive. Most computers will boot from a CDRom drive anyway these days. This means if I want to flash the BIOS I can create a bootable CD with the flash utility and the *.bin file I get from the Internet. I do have a DVD recorder which will write to CDRom and DVD. You have to be rather careful flashing the BIOS and follow instructions. I would hate to flash the BIOS and lose power part way through for example. Your average floppy drive will hold 1.44 Meg of data. Your average CDRom will hold 650 Meg of data.

With the CDRom I can put a heap of tools to do diagnostics on any computer.

Well that one is a worry.
What BIOS have you at the moment?
Will a BIOS update actually make your computer faster? I usually do a BIOS update for other people to put larger Hard drives in or to fix a specific problem.

What will a BIOS update do for you do you think?
