298355 2004-11-30 21:07:00 If you increase your ram ( 512 to 1024 , in duel channel ) , would you expect any speed increase in basic tasks ( windows loading time , etc ) or just get the increase with ram demanding programs noone (22)
298356 2004-11-30 21:10:00 As long as the ram is the same the same speed and in the right slots it should speed booting up a bit.

I've noticed a difference in booting, not really a difference in programs that I use. And how much ram different programs use.

298357 2004-11-30 21:12:00 Will be much more noticable in the more ram-demanding programs ~~~~~ s y ~~~~~ (2054)
298358 2004-11-30 21:50:00 from 512 to 1G you wouldn't see much diff in windows loading time, but from 256 to 512 there certainly is agent_24 (4330)
298359 2004-11-30 22:18:00 When I had 128Mb of ram, my system was constantly using about 115Mb. Now I have 512Mb (with less software installed) and about 200Mb is constantly used. The moral of the story is that the more you feed it, the more it will eat -however, like anything else, to a limit. This limit might be 400Mb. So, in that case, giving it 1gb or 2gb of ram aint going to make much difference. Straight logic really. ~~~~~ s y ~~~~~ (2054)
298360 2004-11-30 22:35:00 you can never have too much ram :D Prescott (11)
298361 2004-11-30 22:41:00 Maybe, but doesn't XP have a ram limit of 4GB? agent_24 (4330)

Quite right, but the "efficiency" of the ram will decrease as more ram is added. Kinda like diseconomies of scale.
