299068 2004-12-02 06:14:00 I host websites and other services, but have run into a massive barrier (or three). That being my heineously insufficient 2mbit JetStream connection, with only [gasp] 192K upstream speed.

The second is the 10GB/month bandwidth cap. This is getting dangerously higher every month, and soon we will be paying $100/month just on bandwidth charges. In one recent month we payed $188 extra for going over the 10GB cap.

This is no longer sufficient to cope with demand on the server, so I have decided that we need something more. This is especially true as we are looking (read: ready to) deploy a new server which needs a second IP address, which Telecom will not allow. Orcon currently provides one static IP address - we use NAT for the rest of the PCs, but each server needs a public IP address.

I have outlined a list of what we need in terms of internet:

At least 2 static IP addresses
Approximately 20GB / month
Around 5Mbit upstream (Downstream is not as important, 2mbit should suffice but 5mbit or so is much preferred) - Note: the large upstream is because a main use of the connection is serving - we usually have around 25 connections at most times - 35 at peak, 2 or 3 at night.

We are happy to provide all our own routing equipment etc.

Does ANYONE know where such a connection could be obtained at reasonable prices (must be reliable).

Approximate price range is around $300/month or less. I looked at Citylink (no idea of prices so sent an e-mail), but they only do CBD. This is in Brooklyn.

Cheers George

299070 2004-12-02 06:24:00 Ah.

Well, it's not an option anyway as I don't live close enough to the CBD (I'm in Brooklyn).

299072 2004-12-02 06:28:00 It might be more popular if it wasn't? Do you know what the prices are like? You seem to know quite a bit about it... george12 (7)

what you want dont look cheap thogh $2610.00
sam_baird2003 (5464)
299076 2004-12-02 06:33:00 Yes, I've looked at that plan. It's 10Mbit downstream = good, but only 1Mbit upstream (better than Jetstream though, but still not really enough). And it's only 10 gigs a month. And only one IP address.

Closest yet though :(

299077 2004-12-02 06:37:00 $1270 / mo - for 10 gigs!?!?!?!

And people are meant to even consider that why?

I see what you mean sam. But one point of interest: 70% of traffic will be National. So one where national B/W is cheaper would be good.
