298936 2004-12-02 01:46:00 I've got a dozen or so old and favourite dvds that I would hate to lose, and I'd like to back them up. But my burner software stops dead in it's tracks when asked to do the job. I know that copy protection comes into this and I've been told that in this respect the popular burner softwares can be much the same as mine. (B's Recorder Gold) So would there be any point in purchasing Nero or Alcohol? Any helpful comments or links to help would be really good. I have no plans to sell thousands of disks on street corners. You wouldn't believe how corny my old favourites are. Cheers Ken paradox (1082)

298938 2004-12-02 01:51:00 Use this (http://www.dvdshrink.org) free program to transfer a DVD to your HDD and while doing so removes all copy and region protection.
Then fire up your favorite burning program and tell it you want to burn a DVD video and point it to the folder where you backed up the original DVD to.

298941 2004-12-04 11:48:00 IIRC DVD Shrink uses Nero as its burning backend (Its been a while since Ive done DVD's in Windows, I think Im getting rusty).

DVD Decryptor can assit with actual _burning_ of Media (Family videos etc of course) just in case you dont have Nero or the likes.

Chill.
