| 298672 | 2004-12-01 09:38:00 | howdy doodly, im getting really sick and tried of my modem, i get connected to the net for like 10min and 5min of those 10min theres no activity and im getting disconnected, disconnected every 10min or so, it is getting out of hand. the connection used to be fine before i had a little problem with partioning my drive and i had to reformat my drive, ever since that these problems have started. in device manager windows detects my modem as Intel V.92 HaM Data Voice fax modem, but after a thread i made a few weeks ago i was getting an error message says that the device reported an error, someone said that i might have the incorrect drivers installed, so i go SiSoft sandra and looked up my modem and got some information, sandra reported that it was actually a ambient technologies inc creatix v.90 HaM modem, this was really weird [oh darn i just got disconnected:(]. so i had a little look on google and couldnt find the drivers, i probely wasnt looking in the right place :p [and there we get disconnected again], im thinking that the right drivers may fix the problem but not too certain so where can i get them?, so it could also be a setting somewhere. Could someone please tell me their settings for their modem under device manger and when you right click on the connection so in other words all the settings for your modem please, adn what settings need to be set? here (sal.neoburn.net) is a screen shot of what i mean. how can i test my line because that could also be a possibility, ive read/heard that you can use your fax to test the line, how can i do this? without bringing a tech out here or ringing xtra/telecom and them telling me that its my problem and i should leave them alone and fix it my self. i have tried it on the other jackpoint in my parents office but still no change, but there pc is fine and doesnt get disconnected. i have done a full virus and spyware scan and nothing appeared. I have zonealarm and that doesnt seem to be the problem. so yeah what can i do?? cheers |

These vary, depending on your network, modem and a host of other factors - your ISP helpdesk are likely to be better equipped to help you. > how can i test my line because that could also be a > possibility, ive read/heard that you can use your fax > to test the line, how can i do this? without bringing > a tech out here or ringing xtra/telecom and them > telling me that its my problem and i should leave > them alone and fix it my self. Call 123,Telecom can arrange line noise test I believe at no charge via that number. > so yeah what can i do?? Try finding the drivers that came with the modem. If you're ISP offers alternate dial up numbers, try those - some modems work better with the different hardware at different exhanges. Or buy a modem for around $30 that you have the correct drivers for. |

| 298676 | 2004-12-01 10:03:00 | There is a free fax testing service available from Telecom. Just send a fax to 0800108208. It is automated and it will send a fax back with details of transmission. |

You just may have your Email client set to disconnect after a send/receive possibly. > the connection used to be fine before i had a little > problem with partioning my drive and i had to > reformat my drive, ever since that these problems > have started. This sounds as if you have not (since reformatting) loaded the correct drivers for the modem you have. Not only that you need to install motherboard drivers for your chipset. > t.jpg]here[/url] is a screen shot of what i mean. > > how can i test my line because that could also be a > possibility, ive read/heard that you can use your fax > to test the line, how can i do this? without bringing > a tech out here or ringing xtra/telecom and them > telling me that its my problem and i should leave > them alone and fix it my self. I have no idea what sort of computer you have or what modem you have.. Look at all CDs that came with your computer. Usually you ought to be looking for Bitware which will have a FAX program. If you can get a FAX program to work then send a FAX to Telecoms Faxright at 0800-108-208. This will give you a line noise test. Difficulty here is that Faxright will send a FAX back to you and you have to configure Bitware correctly to receive a FAX' > i have tried it on the other jackpoint in my parents > office but still no change, but there pc is fine and > doesnt get disconnected. > > i have done a full virus and spyware scan and nothing > appeared. > I have zonealarm and that doesnt seem to be the > problem. > > so yeah what can i do?? > cheers |
