299262 2004-12-02 22:26:00 Running Win98SE. Installed fine ... had to mess about a bit setting up the email scanner and making a few other adjustments, but it is all up and running fine. The auto update facility while connected to the net updates fine.

All in all, a bit of a mission to get it set up right, but once done so it works a treat. I might add that I have all the features of it running fine, unlike others who, from reading their posts, have disable certain parts of it.

299263 2004-12-02 22:33:00 Win2K Pro, AVG6 and ZoneAlarm

Upgraded from AVG6. Discovered no longer able to receive emails.

Searched AVG forum. Discover error could be due to ZoneAlarm mailsafe function. Disable ZoneAlarm mailsafe function and everything else is working properly now.

AVG7 is so much better than AVG6 IMHO.

Vast improvement on AVG 6

Installed fine and is causing no problems. Am able to scan emails OK and also run Zonealarm which seems to have caused some conflict with some users.

299266 2004-12-02 22:53:00 I have had quite a bit of serious grief with the email scanning of version 7 causing random emails to not go through. Doesn't appear to be any rhyme nor reason with them but I am reluctant to disable it as it has saved my bacon a few times in the past. I just have to ensure that I don't shut the PC down before checking that they have all gone through so that they can be sent again.

Interestingly, a computer scanned yesterday with AVG missed 12 seriously infected files that Stinger picked up afterwards.

AVG6 was great .
AVG7 great except for emails . Re: AVG's Eicar virus zip I downloaded, AVG picked it up the moment I installed the file into a test email . Was also able to pick it out manually using Mailwasher . Also, my ISP sent me an email to say it had stopped Eicar virus .

But went to a site which sent you a . 7+ different Eicar virus emails either in attachments, different file types etc, and quite a few of these test emails got through . Gave AVG the boot as I couldn't trust it anymore .

Installed Avast v4 . 5 Home, emails all being checked, user still has control over what gets tested, neat skins, rapt with it, free support forum, blah, blah .

NB> I mention Avast only to point out another AVG problem I wasn't aware of until it was out of my computer and Avast installed .
== My Computer is really fast again, no dragging of heels, etc . Hadn't changed anything else on my computer, so AVG must have been the culprit .

If AVG gets it's act together over Emails, I would promote it to other people .
But will not go back myself because of the hogging .

299268 2004-12-02 23:33:00 Well there isn't really any reason to question it coz there's no option but to upgrade anyway if you want to continue using AVG Free.

But I'd like to know... are people uninstalling 6 first before installing 7, or is an "upgrade" ok?

Does your ISP block viruses from you but not to you?

Using the Eicar tests I can't get any I've tried past xtra's checker to see whether AVG would spot them or not .
