| 298865 | 2004-12-01 21:46:00 | I have a Pentium4 with an ECS "P"series mother board running XP Pro. The USB ports will not recognise a Hewlett Packard 1200 combo printer. The printer is OK on 3 other computers. 1) Bios USB enabled. 2) Device manager shows all USB ports as up & running 3) Services manager shows PnP as started on Auto. Other symptons: 1) The "dust pan" (USB Remove) Ikon is missing from the task bar. 2) <Windows key>+E & <Windows key>+Pause do not respond (should get 'Windows Explorer & 'System') I should reinstall but there is a pile of software, so I am trying everything else first. Can anyone help. |

And is the port its in USB2 as well?? Is SP1 or SP2 installed if the printer and the ports on the PC are USB2?? |

Don't know, but it works on 2 laptops, one with XP SP1 & the other with ME. >Is the printer combo USB 2? And is the port its in USB2 as well?? Tried all 4 ports, no go. >Is SP1 or SP2 installed if the printer and the ports on the PC are USB2?? Maybe I should reinstall SP1 or install SP2. |

At some stage of the install the software will say it's trying to communicat with the printer and to make sure that it's now plugged in............. | drcspy (146) | ||
| 298871 | 2004-12-02 01:45:00 | Reinstalled SP1, now works :) I just remembered that I had the same problem with a USB modem when I first installed XP Home. |

| 298872 | 2004-12-02 01:51:00 | Did you have SP2 installed? The firewall blocks access to the USB port for some printers. Normally if this is the cause you would download a fix from the printers website or modify the firewall settings. | Berryb (654) | ||
