298749 2004-12-01 19:27:00 NetSafe have launched a CyberSafety ambassador - Hector the Protector.

Linky (www.netsafe.org.nz)

Basically a dolphin that kids click on if they see nasty images on the net, it then blanks the screen until an adult comes and closes the material. Seems kinda pointless as it has no proactive protection.

However:

More importantly it is in conjunction with MS, and they have a wee blurb on microsoft.co.nz

Best still though is one of the Q&A:

Q: Which programs will activate my Hector Safety Button?

A: Currently Supported Browsers: MS Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Mozilla Fire Fox, Opera, Netscape *, Avant Browser *, Crazy Browser, MyIE2

Currently Supported Email Clients: Outlook Express, Outlook, Thunderbird

I bet putting the mozilla products up there hurt.

298750 2004-12-01 20:02:00 What I can't understand, why such a big file for a graphic, a button and, I presume, some simple encryption script. 3.5MB for XP 6.2MB for the rest. If you have a look, most Mozilla extensions for eg are under 100KB.

How about the Mac!

I think a request for a Linux version would be reasonable, don't you think.
