299329 2004-12-03 02:58:00 Setup delays are hard to find on about 1 dozen ISP sites i just looked at. How many people reckon they should list the delay to create account?

Clear just said i would have to wait 5 days by post to recieve information to setup a 56k Account. The world of speedy internet, governed by snail mail post....

What i would suggest is that those that allow fast sign up indicate it, because thats a selling bonus, if i could find a Sub 27/month 56k Plan now which would allow me to pay for only 1 month, not a year or 3 months and i wouldn't have to wait a week, that would be kewl.

Idea beyond current scope:

Look at this www.weblist.co.nz

Thats the way things going, more information that the user wants, not just more content but content the user can filter, sort or otherwise to get what they want.

In a way i wish such a list was advanced to include the issue of setup delay, and ideas like this continued to grow.

E.G. For netguide, pcworld or others to make a common resource for such material and rely on it. Then it could be a case of developing items with little financial reward they may feel they have lost to a better utilisation of man hours for labour times without having to increase the workload to a big factor.

A list like the one mentioned in PC World or Netguide, with more enchancements may create an improvement for the user and larger parties beyond the current limitations, but then like in A Beautiful Mind maybe game theory exists and each unit will do whats best for themselves :-(

299332 2004-12-03 04:42:00 The five day delay waiting for the setup CD is just convience or those people who prefer not to setup their new internet connection settings on the PC themselves, but like having a one click CD that does it all for you.

Most ISP's can set you up an dialup account and have it activated very quickly. You then just need to know the dialup number and the pop and smtp settings to enter in for that ISP, and you can be surfing that same day.

Did you ask how long it would take to have the account activated if you didn't want to wait for the CD?

299333 2004-12-03 06:21:00 Well @ Quicksilver we can set you up and have you surfing (on dial up) as soon as you have either filled out the online form or you have called us up to join .

This is certainly the case with other ISP's too .

299334 2004-12-03 06:29:00 I might try calling quicksilver shortly then if it supports <$30/month, quick setup, 1 month period and me being able to pay by direct debit for 1 month only at this stage.

It would be good if there was sometimes more logic explain on join pages

I signed up for clear.... then when it completed it says i would have to wait 5 days for an item with a code on it to be posted to me or something like that. Put me right off doing business 'At/Like the speed of the internet'

I would reckon that ANY ISP out there should make these facts clear. I have been around computers a long period of time, and even if i wasnt to know this about ISPs there will be many people who may not, whethered experience or not and by having it there it may make it clear.....

Case in point i will lookup quicksilver in the next hour or so.

299336 2004-12-03 06:37:00 Clear also Required the user to sign up to have a work Phone Number, not just a home phone number, or require basically business details.

If they want to make it a requirement that you be working for a business thats a bit harsh.... but maybe also that it could have been a web page/programmitical error or otherwise as well i suppose.

I should email this to them shortly to be fair to them, which i shall.

299337 2004-12-03 06:55:00 get this: I Emailed clear to tell them about this on their help email address.....

It says

Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:

Recipient address: arsupport@ims-ms-daemon
Original address: help@clear.net.nz
Reason: Over quota

That looks really good when considering to sign up with an ISP, huh?

299338 2004-12-03 06:58:00 Note: the email was 39 Kilobytes... so i dont think it was the size of my email that was the issue.

Why do i say this? some people may think i sent a long message, rather it seems they have many unanswered help questions or help data which they have not addresses. and for an ISP help account that sounds like it could be notably large... or that the allowances for it and not well provised, either way it not well addressed.

I may call Clear soon to let them know of this, but i am reporting and error to report an error, which shows signs of some malformation of the system... but in fairness there is the chances of that anywhere with anything, even the best services at times
