2004-12-03 01:48:00 | I bought one from Dick Smiths a few weels ago for about $16. 21db which is pretty quiet, although you can get quieter they cost more. Does your case take 120mm? | Spout (6433) | |
2004-12-03 02:20:00 | There a lots of quiete brands available. I would generally avoid no name or re-badged brands. Beware of flase promises of CFM (cubic feet per minute = airflow) and dbA ratings, most of them are bull dust. You could get larger fans, say replace a 60mm with an 80mm and an 80-90mm with a 120mm. Generally larger fans are quieter for the same or more CFM, you can then reduce noise further by fitting a voltage regulator or volt mod the wiring to run the fan at 75 or 50% voltage, both of which reduce RPM. Have a look Silent PC Review (http://www.silentpcreview.com/), somwhere in there, is a rating of fans for noise and airflow.

2004-12-03 02:45:00 | my case cannot take 120mm fans , only 80mm , so im lookin for 80mm , the fans i have now are noisy as hell , but i think around 20db will do me fine with anything over 1500rpm. | noone (22) | |
2004-12-03 02:50:00 | The DSE one is well over 1500 rpm. Interestingly, while my PC ran quieter, it wasn't the case fan that was making most noise it was the CPU fan. I replaced that too, now the PC is really quiet. | Spout (6433) | |

2004-12-03 03:49:00 | A volt modded Evercool aluminium fan is the closest thing to silent, the Thermaltake Silent Cats are pretty good aswell. If you want the best silent fan then you could import some SilentX fans. | Pete O'Neil (250) | |
