| 299314 | 2004-12-03 00:59:00 | Hi does anyone know of software that will monitor and record how many megabytes i download off the net over a month with my dial up modem so i can work out what broadband plan i need thank you |

You'll probably use much, much more once you change to broadband, everyone I know certainly has, even if they only use it for web browsing etc. Think more about what type of user you are - would you like to download music, programs etc, would you send/receive email attachments, are you into linux (downloading latest distros etc), will you want to listen to streaming audio/watch streaming video. Also, you might end up spending more time on the net (and thus downloading more stuff) simply because you enjoy the speed and therefore find browsing the net to be more enjoyable. Bletch |

Mrs Metla for instance saw no need for anything better then 56k,...now she has discovered streaming media I doubt she would be very happy going back to 56k. |

| 299317 | 2004-12-03 01:28:00 | Bletch is right there :), you will download a lot more then what you normal do on dial up . also that will depend on if you are going with 2M or 256 K plan. IMO start of with a 10GB plan & see what happens from there, if you find you use less then for example 3 gb's a month then I would think you could downgrade to a smaller plan Good luck & I Hope this helps :) |

| 299318 | 2004-12-03 01:38:00 | I at first had a 1GB plan and used: 1.2GB 1.8GB I immediately changed to 3GB and used: 4.5GB 5.1GB I immediately changed to 10GB and used 2GB ?:| but then 3.5GB the next month. Then I got a few more hosting clients, use about 8GB - 10GB now. It goes up! |

| 299319 | 2004-12-03 01:40:00 | But the question is: If I had to switch back to 1GB, would I still use 8GB? And incur a $350 bandwidth charge? I think not. I'd probably turn off the server for one, and then go kill whatever made me switch to 1GB. Cheers George |
