300088 2004-12-06 18:35:00 Arriving home yesterday, I noticed my desktop screen was in the safe mode boot up screen....Needless to say my heart skipped a beat and various thoughts ran through my head ( the main one being "oh s**t")
After many reboots, it is up and running again, and I am now downloading the XP boot disk from MS.
I have a problem where MS says I need 6 floppies to copy the file to. After scrabbling around I have come up with 5.
Can I use a W98 single boot disk on XP Pro?
I can go out and get another disk, but I am half Dutch and don't really want to buy another disk.
OR...is it OK to burn the expanded files to a CD and boot from there.
I have checked BIOS and it will not run a USB device first (damn!)

Any thoughts gratefully recieved...

XP Pro
Athlon 1800
256mb Ram
SP1 (don't want the huge d/l to SP2)

Thanks

Yes, but you probably won't be able to read your hard drive if it is NTFS

300090 2004-12-06 19:16:00 alternatively if you have it you can simply boot from the xp cd...... drcspy (146)
300091 2004-12-06 19:27:00 Thanks,

Drive is FAT, so should be OK there...

Errr...I appear to have mislaid my XP CD... I am sure I had one....

300092 2004-12-07 00:37:00 Buy a box of floppies. ;-)

You are probably wasting your time with floppies you have "raked up". Boot disks really need to be perfect. I prefer to format them on the machine they are to be used on, too. If there are any bad blocks, I won't use them as boot disks.

300093 2004-12-07 01:03:00 You might be able to get a NTFS aware boot disk from www.bootdisk.com thewhiz (4002)
