300069 2004-12-06 17:22:00 Try Maxtor's Powermax utility - it creates a floppy that will do an intensive analysis of your hard drive. I've put a copy up here (http://zulu.orcon.net.nz) Greg S (201)
300070 2004-12-06 18:33:00 It's knackered
If it's not seen by the BIOS then it probably won't be seen by any utilities either
Time for a new one.
DSE has got new 80GB for about $98

I'm sure you're right, but I still think it's worth a try, because the communication from the floppy to the drive may bypass the bios - just speculating.

300072 2004-12-06 18:50:00 Greg,

Any speculation is good, already tried power max, no go, this one was trying to recover lots of file allocation units, before the cat pulled the wires.

Might have been bad any way, just hate throwing 50 in the bin without trying something.

Have woman = have cat = have damage = might be time to send woman away.

300074 2004-12-06 19:09:00 No no,

What value put on woman v peacfull undisturbed life.

where everything stays where you put it, and you are the only one responsible for any damage.

Oh jeez! I know what you mean - my ex was like that. Fortunately my missus is a librarian and she "understands" my version of a filing/storage system! :D
