| 300128 | 2004-12-06 08:14:00 | howdy doodly, i think i have found the problem with my modem, i am convinced that i have the right drivers, i done some reasearch and found out that intel purchased ambient technologies and intel now lables these modems as there own, so it down to the phone line. i used my phone and heard a slight "tick" in the line and this must be causing my frequent disconnections. What can i do about this "tick" in the line? Its happend before but then one day it went away and the line was perfect for the next 3 or so months ?:| I orderd a cd from the xtra website and i let it set up my modem and settings automaticly but still no change. My isp is xtra hope someone can help, TIA |

Call the helpdesk, they may be able to advise a modem string that might force your modem to a more compliant standard. Buy a better modem. |

| 300131 | 2004-12-06 08:33:00 | Sounds as if the noise could be caused by an electric fence, are you rural by any chance. If you are you might get a more reliable connection if you slow your modem down by adding +MS=V34 into the Extra settings box or if on XP it is called Extra initialization commands in Modem properties/Advanced |

| 300133 | 2004-12-06 08:45:00 | Go to Control/Panels and open Phone and Modems Click on Modems at the top Click on Properties at the bottom Click on Modem at the top and change the port speed to 57600 Click on Advanced at the top and in the box type +MS=V34 and OK at the bottom. If that string is not suitable for your modem you will get a nodem not responding error when you try to dial in which case just delete those settings. If it does connect you may find that it will give a more reliable connection. |

If all else fails, why not check for drop-outs along the fence? ( Modern method with multitester thingies or old-style system with a blade of grass.) |
