| 300008 | 2004-12-06 04:09:00 | I once upon a time had an ISP which worked most of the time. Broadband wireless. I live in Tokoroa as most of you would know. On the 19th October 2004 my broadband wireless ISP went down and it took 5 days to get hold of the Helpdesk. So I told them to put it where there sun does not shine as it were. I had a copy of the NZ PCWorld for October 2004 at the time and on the back page was an advert for Orcon. "All you can eat broadband for just $59.95" I phoned Orcon and said I wanted a connection. I gave all details regarding my Telecom account number, Phone number, Address etc. The price from Orcon had gone down to $49.95 and I thought this OK as the previous ISP was charging $61.88. This for a month I was then told it would take 5 - 10 working days to get the Orcon UBS broadband to actually work here. After 12 working days I phoned again and was told that Telecom said the wrong phone number had been given. 866-xxxx as compared to 886-xxxx So I thought another 5 - 10 working days before connected to broadband. 15th November 2004 was told by Orcon that we can now connect. I then plugged in the ADSL Modem I bought and no ADSL signal. I will say that Orcon have said that I can get compensation which I don't need or want. They have given me a FREE dialup account which I am now using. Thanks Orcon! I believe that Telecom have a fair bit to answer for. I don't use Telecom for Tolls. I had thought about going back to Xtra on a Jetstream account which is probably what they want me to do. What do you lot think? |

It's quite interesting to see how Orcon rings you, says Telecom messed it up, gives you a free dial-up account and all of a sudden Telecom are the bad guys - personally I would blame the ISP not the people they go through. It's hardly reasonable for Telecom to give you a free dial-up account when they're not even your to-be ISP is it? |

It is Telecoms fault as they say there are no ports available in Tokoroa. I know that this is not the case as I recently installed a Jetstream account here for a Telecom customer. > It's quite interesting to see how Orcon rings you, Telecom has not phoned me and neither has Orcon. I ring them. > says Telecom messed it up, gives you a free dial-up > account and all of a sudden Telecom are the bad guys > - personally I would blame the ISP not the people > they go through. It's hardly reasonable for Telecom > to give you a free dial-up account when they're not > even your to-be ISP is it? I don't WANT a Xtra account. I want an Orcon account and I want Broadband. I don't want a Telecom account as the account would be limited and costs more than Orcon. Orcon can NOT enable my rented Telecom phone line for UBS ( Unbundled Bitstream) themselves can they? Do you now comprehend why I think Telecom are the bad guys. I don't want or need a Telecom dialup account whether free or otherwise. |

| 300011 | 2004-12-06 07:23:00 | Telecom have to enable the line for any ISP to get your connection running . This could be for standard adsl or bitstream . Telecom are not an ISP, however they seem to drag their heels when it's not an Xtra customer wanting something . Growly, remember - Telecom is not Xtra . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Yeah, Right |

| 300012 | 2004-12-06 08:02:00 | Sounds to me like most of the blame rests with Orcon . I use the Telecom Online Provisioning system, if you enter incorrect details like phone number, or incorrect customer account name etc etc they decline the application within 24 hours when the first assessment is done . Orcon would've known about the mess up within 24 hours, 48 at the outside and did nothing to contact you about it . During that time it's quite possible that there have been enough requests in your area to fill all the ports at the exchange before the entered the second request . IIRC the DSLAM cards cost somewhere in the 7-10k vicinity so there needs to be justification (not just one person) to install another one . |

| 300013 | 2004-12-06 16:21:00 | I'rd say Telecom/Xtra are the bad guys. Why? Telecom advertise 5 days to connect you to broadband. I have signed up with IHug and they tell me I have to wait 10 days for Telecom to connect me . I'rd say Telecom are not very nice people. Jack |

| 300015 | 2004-12-06 18:24:00 | Unfortuneatly, that will only apply to existing customers. He is a new customer, so won't have a billing period yet. The bottleneck is Telecom. Have been down the same road with Slingshot. It is not the contractors getting to do the work, it is Telecom not giving them the work rapidly when it applies to non-xtra accounts. |
