300020 2004-12-06 04:13:00 I'm selling a PC without any additional software and wondered which free Office equivalent suites people would recommend.

PC has WinXP Pro SP2 on it.

Thx

300022 2004-12-06 04:23:00 I like the look of OpenOffice, but it's got too much stuff on it that'll be useless - if I can find somewhere to get just a few of the components that'll probably do the trick. Greg S (201)

300024 2004-12-06 04:28:00 Hi Greg

OpenOffice is good because you can view MS powerpoint presentations, excel spreadsheets and Word documents, as well as create you own so they might like having all that.

If you are looking for a simple word processor, how about Abiword (http://www.abisource.com/) which is available for Windows. It is really nice.

I used this one a few years ago and it worked fine it was a lot smaller and snappier than star office/open office and I found it a little easier to use, I haven't used it for a while now so I can't comment on the latest version (I got given office 2003) but I believe there is a free download version, for non commercial use

Abiword as mentioned above is also really good, but the version I had couldn't save as a .doc (microsft format), but this may have changed

I have Abiword 2.0.12 (Linux) which can save as .doc as well as a variety of other formats - Example (sal.neoburn.net).

300027 2004-12-06 09:09:00 I think Open Office is really good and you can download it or Dick Smith has it for $5. a lot cheaper than Microsoft Office stevensaaron (6348)
300028 2004-12-06 14:46:00 Greg,

just like M/s bloatice you can trim it, it dosent take that much space, as it for sale the new owner might want those bits??

300029 2004-12-06 17:06:00 Thanks folks. New owner only wants it for email at this stage, but concedes some apps may be useful later on - she's never used a pc outside work before.

Anyway I'm going for OpenOffice - at least I'll get to have a look at it before it goes.

Cheerz
