300002 2004-12-06 04:06:00 A mate’s got a Compaq Proliant 800 server that he’s thinking of replacing and he has asked me what I think it’s worth. Unfortunately I haven’t a clue.

Soooo, maybe some of you good folk out there would care to give me a ballpark figure?

Specifications as far as I can tell are:

Two SCSI HDD’s, one 20gig (10,000rpm) one 4.2gig (7200rpm)

Tandberg SLR5 4/8gig tape backup

Single Intel 350mhz P2 Processor (provision for two as far as I can tell?)

128meg Ram

FDD & CD ROM

All neat and tidy, but is there a market for such an animal, or maybe he’d get more for it as pieces?

What’s your thoughts?

Cheers

Bob

A browse in Trademe might be informative.

300005 2004-12-06 04:58:00 Not much use other than as a door stopper or gloves drier.

Someone could use it as a Linux firewall I supposed. Did I read a few weeks ago the Salvation Army is looking for a server?

300006 2004-12-06 06:40:00 Thanks Guy’s,

Well, it doesn’t seem to be use or ornament does it.

I had searched Trademe Graham but didn’t see the “Server” section. :p

Now I’ve found it you seem to be spot on drb.

Too heavy for a door stop Stan, the door would be stuck open and with the wind we’ve been having that would be a disaster.

I wonder what the power supply could be used for? Small welder? I might have a look to see what it’s rated at. Maybe run Christmas lights for the whole neighbourhood? :D

Ahh well, I’d better pluck up courage and tell the rightful owner. :(
