300444 2004-12-07 06:35:00 Hello,

Currently I am on Bitstream (UBS) with Orcon and have my home line rental with Telecom.

If I change my line rental to Telstraclear, will the Bitstream ADSL get disconnected?

This seems to be a grey area and everyone I've spoken to (Orcon, Telstraclear, Telecom) hasn't given me a clear answer.

Cheers.

When TelstraClear first started advertising home lines I checked their website which said you needed to sign up for home line, tolls and internet using one of their options (Clear.net, cable, or Paradise). You could sign up for tolls with another company but it would cost you an extra $5 a month on top of your line rental. Didn't say anything about an option to sign up internet with another company. I never looked further into it, as I was not going to pay an extra $5 a month to be able to make tolls with another company, as everything else was the same price as Telecom (who don't charge the extra $5 for me to make tolls through another company), but it seemed to me that you were required to get internet through them as well.

300446 2004-12-07 06:57:00 I just signed up with them, and the conditions say $10 extra if you use another ISP. wotz (335)
300447 2004-12-07 07:13:00 I assume you mean Telecom Wotz? That's my understanding of their policy, $10- extra for your internet if you don't use them for tolls. Murray P (44)

Very simply... Yes. Until your ISP works out an agreement with TelstraClear and Telecom on how the service will work.

See? It's not just Telecom that are money hungry corporates viciously robbing you of your hard earned cash!

300451 2004-12-07 08:34:00 Ok that's cleared things up a bit thanks guys.

I was kind of looking forward to not getting anymore Telecom bills ever again. It makes me ill every time I get one in the post and have to pay one. God knows why. Looks like I'll have to put up with them for a bit longer perhaps.

Not when using UBS. With UBS you pay the ISP who then pays the costs they need to. The one you are thinking of only applies when using one of Telecoms plans but using another ISP.

Any one who still feels sorry for Telstra just needs to look what they're doing in Oz - every bit as bad as Telecom here.
