| 300251 | 2004-12-07 00:44:00 | Over a number of years I have made myself a jukebox from old records and tapes. (Some 200+) All of these Ive saved in mp3 format and played on Windows Media Player 9, without a hitch I might add. Now, these were saved on a separate drive (E in this case) which was only a couple of gigs and was becoming rather full. So, I get myself a new 20gig C drive and decide that Ill copy all the music over to there and keep E for a backup. OK, that was all accomplished with relative ease so it is just a matter of telling WMP9 the new location of the files. So I open WMP9 and blow me down if all the play lists and files are still there and working?? E drive is sitting on the shelf! Oh well I think, that was very clever Mr Gates its done everything itself. So far so good. :) Everything has been fine for a month or so until I went to add a new file. I placed the file in my music folder and double clicking on it opened it and played it perfectly, so it was just a matter of adding it to WMP9s playlist and that is where it all turns to custard. When I hit Add I got a message Your Computer is running low on Memory. Quit programmes and try again Never seen this message before and there is 192meg of ram. OK, I close everything and restart WMP9 with little or nothing else running. Same problem. Then I noticed that the location of all the music files was still E drive, which was sitting on the shelf ! Right I think, the easiest way might be to uninstall WMP9 and do a clean install. So I uninstall it using Win98se uninstall, pick up the rubbish with SystemWorks, clear out the registry of what I can find and reinstall from the Security Update CD. Everything goes according to plan and lo and behold I have a brand new WMP9, clean as a whistle, no play lists no music of any kind. So I tell it to search the folder with all my music which it does, only to tell me there isnt anything new in there!! I can go into the folder via Windows Explorer and double click on any song and WMP9 opens and plays it OK but I cant add it to any WMP9s music play lists and it cant detect any of the music. Its got me licked, Ive scratched my head, and everything else, but cant crack it. I just hope that the Smart Alec thing hasnt encoded my music files in some manner???? Anyone help? :( |
