300169 2004-12-06 21:19:00 I wish to dump Norton SystemWorks since the AntiVirus is less than stellar.
I do however use the Norton Utilities which is part of the total package to repair registry errors and other glitches that tend to accumulate over time.
Can any one recommend a replacement for this part of the program. I am quite prepared to pay if necessary. Thanks.

300170 2004-12-06 21:30:00 If you like System works you could always keep that part of it and just remove the Antivirus.

Replace with AVG if you want free or Nod32 if you want the best.

300171 2004-12-06 21:44:00 Or just d/l ccleaner. http://www.ccleaner.com

It'll remove temp files/cookies etc. And also has a reg cleaner.

Altho, IMO, its not a good idea to use reg cleaners. Some can delete valid entries, and then you're screwed!! You'll have to reinstall whatever program to get it going 100%.

And just get something like AVG, for the virus scanner. BOTH are free! And most probably wont take up as much room as Norton Utilities would.

Have installed and run some of it this morning - seems OK.

300173 2004-12-07 03:25:00 You'll be amazed how much faster your computer gets after removal of the Norton elephant!
the system tools of windows itself are not too bad and I always suspected that the defragmentation tool of Norton was just using the in-built windows one with a slimy interface!

300175 2004-12-07 05:25:00 Google came up with a list of sites (enter mindsoft utilities) - I went to majorgeeks.com/download3859.html. Also did a search on majorgeeks home page, entered mindsoft utilities in search box (scroll down left panel a bit.) Then scroll down long list of stuff that arrives and you'll find it there. katharinem (3459)

What version of SystemWorks? Would you be keen on giving it away (or selling it)? I'm possibly after a copy.

Mike.

I'm still thinking of keeping the Utilities part of it.
