300308 2004-12-07 23:18:00 In that case I would tend towards a dead motherboard. I think you would have go beeps if the CPU was stuffed. Spout (6433)
300309 2004-12-07 23:56:00 Yip, i think you're right.
I just swapped the CPU's around, i now have the 1800 working fine in this pc, and put the duron from this into mine, still teh same.
I even tried swapping PSU around - just to check it out, and same thing.

So i think i'll be spening the $$ on the new gear!!

As its been 18mnths since i got the M/B so i think its out of warranty ( i just emailed them) and i can't find a replacement BIOS CHip anywhere - so whats the point in those removable BIOS chips if ya can't even get replacements (i've emailed chainetch also)

But thanks all!

300311 2004-12-08 00:35:00 Yea, thanks Murray, I also just found those links, and then you wouldn't believe it, but this PC froze and reset, i thouht it was due to 2 things - heat or power, so i reset, then about 10sec later it reset.
So i turned off power, opened case, touched heatsink - lol, it was HOT! then relised i hadn't plugged the CPU fan in.
I thought it was over, more $$ to spend.
BUt i plugged it in - let it cool, and it gest to about 52C and the mobo switches it off, so it may be time for another CPU fan/HS for this...

But i'll check out those links.
thanks

300312 2004-12-08 01:01:00 What is the type number of the BIOS chip? It's probably OK, if you have managed to flash it a couple of times. Graham L (2)
300313 2004-12-08 03:26:00 hey, on the stciker on the chip it has:

PhoenixBios
D686 BIOS
107522910

But on the chip it has:

49LF040
33-4C-NH
0247070-BA

Cheers

300314 2004-12-08 03:45:00 That EEPROM is a 49LF040, and you might be able to get one. But it is a discontinued part. People seem to have had troubles using it. It seems that a part in the same family (the 49LF020) is used in "modification" packs for the Xbox because of a design fault. ;-)

But it's more likely to be a fault elsewhere.

300315 2004-12-08 03:53:00 Lol.

Do you no where you can buy them?
I haved checked out those Links Murray gave me, one site it was $37 US for one, the other i just emailed.

300316 2004-12-08 04:01:00 I just entered "49LF040" to Google . There are a fair number of suppliers who list it .

I'm not sure whether you can flash a blank chip . . . the problem would be getting the programme loaded, because you need a BIOS to boot any disks . :D
