300454 2004-12-07 08:40:00 I have to say, I'm impresses with Telstra so far. I rang on Saturday to change it, and had to be transferred to someone else. It rang for a while (so far not impressing me) then got cut off (really not impressed). I then got an email oppologising for the cut off and my message had been passed on (got lots of brownie points for that). Yesterday someone rang, but I was at work. They were given my work number but I was out a lot. They rang at about 5.50 tonight and signed me up. To me thats pretty good service, even with a couple of blips on Saturday. I hope they continue in the same way. wotz (335)

Not much of a consolation, but some ISP's will let you pay your Telecom line rental through them so you don't technically recieve a Telecom bill. (Money gets to them anyway though)

300456 2004-12-07 13:21:00 I was the one that said PressF1 members should stop bad mouthing Telecom, a few months ago.

I got replies people think I worked for Telecom,

I went to Telstraclear on the Monday "day one"

Telecom rang me a few weeks later and asked me to go back to them, then they would offer me cheaper toll calls.

Fat chance of going back, I don't make any toll calls.

But not quite as much money as if I subscribed to their wholesale products through another provider. I'm sure Telecom would much rather I was with them (and Xtra for my ISP).
If only I could get wireless - then they wouldn't get any of my hard earned cash.
I don't hate Telecom by the way. I've just had alot of hassles with them, plus unhelpful customer service, and I think they could be doing alot more on the broadband front. I believe the only way they will wake up and provide a better value service is if they are hit where it hurts (their pocket). Though losing a couple of dollars from me changing my line rental won't make much difference to them, it's a start.

You perhaps do not understand that Telecom will still be paid the "line rental" by Telstra Clear, so it makes no difference to Telecom .

Telstra Clear simply "rebundle" the way you are charged, it has no relationship to how they fund the total deal .

As we did not get "Local Loop Unbundling" (LLU) then the monopoly on the line remains with Telecom . Telsta Clear simply pay it on your behalf .

300459 2004-12-07 19:30:00 So you don't get any discount from Telstra and for a tiny amount less income Telecom don't have to do your 1st line support and billing. I guess Telecom wins :-) PaulD (232)

Sorry - I did understand that Telecom get paid. But they don't get paid as much, right? Though I also understand that the wholesale margin is very small, so in that sense you're right - it won't make much difference to them.
But it would make a difference to me. Firstly Telstraclear offer a better deal with the line rental (you get a discount if you spend x amount on tolls). And secondly I don't have to deal with Telecom directly (I haven't had good experiences with them).

On the other hand, maybe it's better to go with Telecom rather than subscribe to wholesale. If something goes wrong or if you have a problem, then at least they can't get off the hook by blaming it on someone else.
The current debacle over UBS changeovers is a prime example.

Clear say they get a buck or so from it .

What's is you don't get hit with the $6 late payment, But I will be paying in plenty of time .

But for an extra $15 you can have the privilege of tolls and internet through other companies... a privilege I currently get for free from Telecom. Otherwise I would have joined them on day one.

300463 2004-12-10 07:03:00 But I don't wish to spent any more than the standard phone rental fee .

Have a nice weekend Mike .
