300221 2004-12-08 09:10:00 jayal , the AVG log would seem to tell you where the affected files are .
I don't understand what you mean by " not recognised " - did you use windows explorer to go looking for / search the problem ?

300222 2004-12-08 17:05:00 and as the nasty file is a dll it's probaly a hidden file within a hidden folder.........so when searching make suer to use the advanced options to search hidden files/folders drcspy (146)
300223 2004-12-09 02:23:00 not recognised? - sorry, bad choice of words - probably meant not there - so, have already searched through the paths and deleted the DLL, the "parent lock" file won't go away - have a small dos prog - list.com - and that didn't delete it either, says "an error has occurred, operation cancelled" ???? - deselected all the atts, no didn't disappear - in properties its called a lock file but has zero bytes?? - anyway seems that's the only file left and everything works okay so maybe i'm clean - if that's the case i'd like to say thanks guys for your patience, can't be easy dealing with the ignorant - perhaps one final request, just how do you delete files that don't seem to want to be deleted?

cheers till next time!

300224 2004-12-09 02:51:00 Normally when you get into the menu for safemode, in the list along with safemode is one mentioning " prompt ". This gets you in a command mode which allows you to alter these files. This is because Windows hasn't started and so cannot protect the file.

You need to know how to navigate and manipulate files using commands though. very much like DOS.
