2004-12-07 20:29:00 | Thinking of going FC2 and well im pretty sure that my $10 modem will not work , What ( fairy cheap ) 56kb modem will work on Linux so i can migrate with sucess | noone (22) | |
2004-12-07 20:44:00 | External modems will :D I purchased a Modem from Eden Computers (http://www.edenonline.co.nz) that I wanted to work on a P100 (Without MMX), and they had one at the time. I later got that customer on to Vector Linux and they said they had no problems, so try asking around for a _true_ hardware modem. If it doesnt say it requires a 133Mhz MMX-Enabled CPU then you should be good.

2004-12-07 21:24:00 | The DSE internal modems also work with Linux (I have tested on RedHat, Knoppix, Lycoris and Mandrake) although you will need to install the drivers (included). Bletch

2004-12-07 21:26:00 | Bletch: Is this the HaM Modem based on some Intel Chipset? Do they work with kernel-2.6?

2004-12-08 00:32:00 | Why not ask the experts? "modem linux" to Google will get you a link (first) to the latest uptadte of Modem-HOWTO (November2004) , and a link (third) to the linmodems.org site, which is the main one for modems. The HOWTO is essential reading. The linmodems site is where the open-source drivers live. When you seriously consider a model, enter its make and model plus "linux" to Google, and see if anyone doesn't like it..:D
