300402 2004-12-07 05:07:00 howdy doodly,
after my experience of installing yoper and resizing my drive with qtparted, i started to really like that program, what i was wondering is, can i have this qtparted program on a seperate bootable disk? ie i dont need to put in the YOPER disk and load the entire setup to get to qtparted?
i checked out the homepage and it only seems to be for linux, whereas i have winxp dual booted with yoper and i want it to go with any windows version because it may become a handy app if a mate needs to partion their drive.
cheers

300403 2004-12-07 05:16:00 There are two small ISO's you can download which have QTparted (or parted) on it as well as other tools, and you basically make a bootable CD that you can use on any system.

Inside Security Rescue Toolkit (www.inside-security.de)

System Rescue Cd (http://www.sysresccd.org/)

300405 2004-12-07 21:24:00 SytemRescueCd is good. I got it just to use QtParted mejobloggs (264)
300406 2004-12-07 21:28:00 partimage is a good open-source Ghost-like application

gpart is on http://insert.cd and is good for guessing partition tables should you somehow screw up (Its only a 100MB Download too IIRC)

300407 2004-12-07 23:57:00 yeah i saw that and im downloading both apps from the links that Jen C gave as we speak. does the partimage make an image of my windows os? or is it just linux? Prescott (11)
300408 2004-12-08 02:13:00 Im pretty sure it can do FAT32 (vfat) drives... Dont take my word as golden though Chilling_Silence (9)
300409 2004-12-08 02:35:00 It images partitions . It doesn't need to care about what's in the partition. ;-)

If it was a true "image" maker it wouldn't need to care about partition type either. But there are problems involved with true image copying, so it will care. ;-)

Any format usable in Linux will be available, because the work for that is already done.

300410 2004-12-09 08:08:00 hey there, well i have completed 63% of INSERT and so it wont be too long until i have it.:)

i done a bit of research and found http://www.partimage.org/ which is the partimage website and i saw that it NTFS is not fully supported but it might work.
I took this from the site:
The NTFS (Windows NT File System) is currently not fully supported: this means you will be able to save an NTFS partition if system files are not very fragmented, and if system files are not compressed. In this case, you will be able to save the partition into an image file, and you will be able to restore it after. If there is a problem when saving, an error message will be shown and you won't be able to continue. If you have successfully saved an NTFS NTFS partition, you shouldn't have problems as you restore it (except in the case of bugs). Then the best way is to try to save a partition to know if it is possible. If not, try to defragment it with diskeeper or another tool, and try to saving the partition again.

might be uselful :) cheaper alternative to ghost.
