| 300260 | 2004-12-07 01:11:00 | Everytime I turn power on to my printer my clever comp. "discovers New Hardware" and wants to install it for me. When I say no it puts an icon on my task bar. Needless to say my printer is working properly. Why don't M/S give you more options on their cards. All you can do is hit yes or no (or simliar). Jack |

| 300261 | 2004-12-07 01:22:00 | This is what happens when they try to make their OS usable by totally computer-illiterate people . Remember "User fiendly" . ;-) If you start the computer with the printer powered down or unplugged, it doesn't exist . So the OS says: "Oh, he's removed that printer" . When you turn the printer on, it acts as if it has just been plugged in . So the OS says: "Oh, here's a new device" . In a future version it might be more sophisticated, and recognise that it does know that device, and doesn't need to install it again . Of course, that would add yet more OS code, and more scope for "problems" . :_| I prefer telling the OS I have installed a device . I don't want it to get upset if the device isn't plugged in . I don't want it to get upset if the device is plugged in again . If I want the device handlers removed from the OS, I will tell it . ;-) I don't use the kudzu service in Linux . |
