"Graeme Abernethy, Auckland, New Zealand:

I live in a rural area - although it's only 40 minutes to central Auckland .

The max download speed I can achieve is 250 kbps (yes kb) .

It costs NZ$99 [£51] per month and is capped at 500GB (which could never be reached due to the slow speed) . "

1360815 2013-11-25 02:19:00 . . . the speeds the others in that article are complaining about :-0
'only' 700kbs .

700K, real world download speed, I wish .
To be able to even stream youtube, at peak NZ times, without stuttering & buffering would be nice .
:groan:

But hey, if you live in 'rural NZ", away from major towns or cities, well away from the ph exchange, is is realistic to expect more than "250 kbps"
40minutes away from central Ak . Can we call BS on that ? YES
I'm 35-40 minutes away from the CBD, yet still in Ak suburbia (NOT rural) .

1360816 2013-11-25 04:53:00 Looking at that article, Telstras cable is damn good, esp with the speed compared to pricing - data capping is a bit of a downer sometimes, but generally OK. Once they get things sorted when having any problems its all :banana wainuitech (129)
1360817 2013-11-25 05:29:00 He's an idiot. Why buy a 500GB plan at $100 a month if you k now your speeds are so sub-optimal, that you could never achieve the cap...

Buy a cheaper plan - there's lot's of choice.

Or investigate other BB options.

Or recognise that your lifestyle choice is not the problem of any ISP.

Sorry NO Pukekohe is Auckland now, and the CBD is achievable in 40 mins on a good day. it also has rural areas, some with diabolical phone wireing!

Pretty much!

Faster plans are very readily available to *most* suburban areas. If you live that far out of town, you've got to expect that, this country makes no excuses for its rural broadband (Or lack thereof)

1360820 2013-11-25 17:45:00 Exactly I signed us up for Fibre last night with Snap as it will be cheaper by $20 a month for double the data gary67 (56)
1360821 2013-11-26 00:02:00 Peasants!

I hardly had time to make a sandwich and have a cup of tea while waiting for 20GB of BF4 files to download :banana

1360822 2013-11-26 01:10:00 Fixed my speed problems by abandoning the copper and went with Netsmart and WiMAX. A few problems, at first but all good now, at least I can watch videos on You Tube without stuttering. PPp (9511)

Dems some first world problems right thurr. Seriously ??:illogical At that sort of speed you would have to bring through at least 2GB /Min. Which would give you 10 minutes to make a cuppa and have it.

Provided a speed test result other wise could be BS ;)
