1360791 2013-11-24 23:50:00 There is that WOF paper they go thru the checks. But I've been told with likes of tyre threads there is a minimum spec'ed but not on the brake pads I was told. So it might come down to the assessor's judgement and maybe if that would be ok for the 6 months  Nomad (952)

1360793 2013-11-25 00:28:00 We will not go near a VTNZ ever again.

In the space of 3 months we took 3 vehicles.

1)The 1986 ute - failed as seatbelt label missing.
Seatbelt label? If it ever had a label, no kidding, it was 26 years old then...and? Seatbelte itself oin perfect condition.

Passed elsewhere.

2)DILs car. Failed on rear brakes. Take it home, dismantle wehhels, check brakes, brakes appear to be just fine. Husband takes car back straight away for recheck after doing nothing to brakes. Car passes.

3)My previous car. They cheeck under bonnet - why? Nothing to do with WOFs under bonnet. Anyway car passes but on way home car stalls, splutters on acceleration, hell of a job getting back.
Check car - they'd pulled - I forget exactly what it was - vacuum hose?
Reattach hose, car fine.

Ring management to complain about all of the above.
He rings back and says they don't do such things, have never done such things, the inspectors are all qualified mechanics and as for my hose, my car is just a piece of crap and I made it all up.

In more or less those words too....

So **** VTNZ.

I've very rarely had problems taking cars to a VTNZ centre although I do tend to get my WOF done when I get the car serviced. Its much easier.

1360796 2013-11-25 01:54:00 At least with VTNZ you can be fairly sure that they will not fail something just to produce work for themselves. Some garages have been less than honest in my experience although most are just fine. CliveM (6007)
1360797 2013-11-25 02:41:00 thanks peeps...........just to clarify....my electric window on drivers door has died, wont go down, thinkfully it died going up and not stuck in down position...lol

So why did they then?

1360799 2013-11-25 04:01:00 So why did they then?

It could be just the nature of old cars, brakes may just fade then get a bit better later ? Perhaps giving them a clean out did the trick.
Ive had a warning that my rear brakes were marginal & would not pass next time, yet did pass the next 2 wof's with no warnings
In no way would I say that the WOF check & warning was wrong, re my brakes. They stuck it on the machine that measures braking power. cant really argue with a machines readout.

You could also argue that a 26 year old seat belt should have been replaced long long ago. That should really be in the WOF checks , instead of some of the other stupid checks . eg failing because window washer water is empty.
