1360456 2013-11-21 05:48:00 Folks have a Toyota that needs to be checked out to see what is wrong with it . Sluggish up hill and some hesitation . Well they already booked it at the Toyota centre .

What is your view on dealership vs the local garage for these work? Would dealer be better if you are not sure what the issue is? The hours may be less at a more expensive rate so if it is more it won't be that much more right . Obviously if it was just the usual stuff a local garage may be better like the WOF and do the brakes etc .

:thanks:

1360457 2013-11-21 05:56:00 Our local garage's speciality, like most garages, is selling food, so I'd never take a car there to be serviced :clap Terry Porritt (14)
1360458 2013-11-21 06:09:00 Dealership for sure.
They have the diagnostic software from Toyota and most mechanics can't afford the licencing fees for it.
Costs about $80 to hook it up to the machine/laptop they use.

1360459 2013-11-21 06:17:00 Depends on how good your local mechanic is. Some are good, some are just amateur cowboys. If your Toyota dealer is a full dealer in the brand I would have more trust in them, especially if it is a late model car, with computer engine controls etc. I have no idea why you think a local spanner jockey is better for WOF or brakes. So it really depends on who you are willing to trust, and who you consider has the skill and expertise to do the job properly. "Cheap" is not very often "best". Richard (739)
1360460 2013-11-21 06:22:00 Under 5 years old, then dealer. Anything older a decent mechanic should have diagnostic tools with the correct plugins. Don't be fooled by dealers, their aren't always right. I've seen them miss a loose earth strap on a honda jazz, and this is after a week of having it. Mind you so did the auto sparkle. plod (107)

1360462 2013-11-21 09:16:00 .......However, in areas where there is no local dealership with servicing, you may get local mechanics with the authorised franchise to service particular makes. For example I went to one for several years with my Daihatsu Hi-Jet as they had the franchise. There were no problems with them. and they had all the low-down on Daihatsu. Terry Porritt (14)
1360463 2013-11-21 11:17:00 Buy OBD2 adaptor Stahlcar from TM for around $35 guy in Greenlane. Supreme good bugger this guy will tell you which models and year need which type of adaptor. Download android app torque $2.99 and run a diagnostic check yourself, I use a Samsung S3 fone. Bought it for my Ford Ka and dragons Mazda 2 used on it mates cars and it worked fine on a Scania truck. Saved a guy heaps by not getting Scania clowns out with their laptop. Toyota dealer program wont check anything less or more than the Stahlcar other than putting out the ABS and airbag captions. He does one for a couple of hundy that does that as well prefect (6291)

1360465 2013-11-22 02:33:00 Take out the airfilter, now try running the car and check for the faults you mentioned, if ok replace airfilter. Also try clean, re-gap spark plugs. zqwerty (97)
