2014-05-26 07:44:00 | More than likely the legal way --- Went to MS filled out the actual MS form, paid ya money and got real keys from Microsoft. Had a few myself :) | wainuitech (129) | |
2014-05-26 07:48:00 | Yup these 3 were from the promotion. I do know 2 of them work. Just reinstalled 8.1 a few weeks ago now, and used one of them again to reinstalll WMC. It was fine | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2014-05-26 07:52:00 | ]More than likely the legal way[/B]) Excuse me? Are you suggesting what I did was illegal? Did you read through the link I posted properly? And FYI - Speedy used the same promotion to get his three keys. You can drop the insinuation. It was a legitimate Microsoft promotion that was poorly executed.

2014-05-26 08:28:00 | Excuse me? Are you suggesting what I did was illegal? Did you read through the link I posted properly? And FYI - Speedy used the same promotion to get his three keys. You can drop the insinuation. It was a legitimate Microsoft promotion that was poorly executed. I'm not accusing anyone of anything. Some people got keys to several types of software from so called legit sources, then turned out to be fake. As long as a person can prove they actually paid for a legit key there shouldn't be a problem. Do you know how many people say they have legit keys and when you dig deeper the legit source is not so legit. Please show EXACTLY where it was mentioned YOU got it illegally ? you wont be able to because it was never said. Try reading the article YOU linked correctly -- the heading says it all "Microsoft mistakenly gifts Windows 8 pirates with a free activation key" So it was pirated software ( windows 8) that were given the keys, not legit ones. There is no where in that article saying what you claimed --"so pretty much everyone who received a key from this promotion, regardless of whether or not they had a genuine Windows 8 Pro device, has had their media center keys invalidated. " It ONLY says if Windows 8 WAS Pirated. Please show where in the article ( what lines) state it effects legal Windows 8 keys ?

2014-05-27 05:03:00 | I had 2 free keys from the promotion for my cheap windows 8 pro upgrades also from the promotion - it was a great deal but I never could get the 2nd key to work. I ended up buying one for the 2nd machine, think it cost something like $12 - $14 ? was certainly cheap anyway but that doesn't help you because I just used the buy a key option and it worked. What is ridiculous is how much it costs to add media centre if you don't have the pro version of 8 or 8.1 - that's probably where the > $100 Idea came from because you have to pay for the pro upgrade and media centre to get it. Are you sure you have 8.1 pro and not standard? Having gone through a few PC changes & upgrades I no longer have windows 8.1 pro (just the standard version) and the only thing I notice is the lack of media centre. As good as it is I don't need it and won't pay that price to get it.
