Freecom Stable.

But it would have to live up to its name, and the full version home user would have to be free, just like the linux distros, MDK especially they limit some of the apps but the whole O/S is free to download user.

The com stands for COMPATIBLE as it should be compatible with most mainstream O/S and file systems.

File systems like: ext2, 3, and reisers file systems especially.

They could do it, they just dont want to. Its not their business model.

Two familys,

DOS-3-3.1-95-98-me.

nt-2k-xp-xp2/2003-longhorn(if it ever gets released)

But being M/s they couldnt even keep the genetics of the family's incest free.

This adds to the Major, Micro Mess, we have today.

301420 2004-12-10 03:45:00 Think about it though, in 2006 who is going to be running anything less that longhorn's requirments? 2006 is a year away, and im planning to get a new computer before 2006. Its just like XP, people thought OMG it needs a p266 or faster (400mhz+ for bester performace), but computers where running at arounf 1.5ghz, so when longhorn gets out, a p3 733 will just be like a p266 today.........

> This whole Linux thing is a bit exaggerated! The only reason Windows appears to have more security flaws is that it has become a target with so many people hating Gates and Microsoft. Because Linux has no central entity that level of hate/jelousy doesn't exist. I read somewhere that if you had an infinite number of monkeys writing for an infinite time the would eventually write the work of Shakespeare, isn't that really why there are so many attacks on Windows? IMHO Linux more than likely has similar issues to any other OS, it's just not as much fun to attack it. Let's face it, while :inux may be stable and fun for enthusiasts, it's still not a viable replacement for Windows for the masses.

> Even if Longhorn needs a 2gig CPU and 512mb RAM and a 40gb HDD so what? A system like that will still be less than a third of what I paid for a P120 to run Win95.

I somewhat agree.

I fully agree that for most people, Windows is a more natural option, however linux is superior in ways. Myself, for my workstations I use Windows XP, and nothing could sway me to linux (Sorry people).

When I said that statement, I was referring to things such as:

- The practically weekly security patches
- Price
- System requirements

etc.

I am not a linux enthusiast, but recognize the areas it is better in.

Cheers

The point her missed is that M/S and Intell are driving the bigger faster train when it is not needed buy so many .

M/S and INTELL Are trying to force a complete H/W revamp for all with the Graphics specs for Longhorn when it is completly unnessecary .

MDK 10 . 1 will still run well on a 233mmx as long as it has 128 ram even EDO ram as long as there is 128meg of it .

Bottom line 1 reason why M/S is such a resource hog is to help CHIPZILLA sell chips that no one really needs .

The SOHO enviroment, And even many of the larger corporate desktop groups, do not need dual core 3 to 4 g chips, this has even been admitted quietly buy many in the industry .

But MicroScam And Chipzilla are going to force a lot of people to buy them, simply buy cajoling a few in to buying them, because then everyone else has to keep up or be M/S inconpatable .

Too many large operations can not afford to be M/S inconpatable at this point .

301423 2004-12-10 04:27:00 Think about it though, there's not going to be many people running anything below 733mhz machines, most people now are running at least 1.2ghz. I know that i dont run the fastest computer (700mhz P3), but by 2006 I would have bought a new one. P3/P4 1.5ghz's will be selling for prices like P3 500-700's are now. Why are its hardware req's so suprising? the hardware in 2006 will be able to run longhorn perfectly. I will be upgrading to it when its avalible. to the last poster, i am a he

301424 2004-12-10 04:44:00 Dwnz,

That should have read, here.

Yes the gear will be available, but ther's new because I need/want and new because I have no choice, as M/S and Chipzilla have forced it on me.

This is again heading to the digital devide argument, we can't recycle our usedd 733, buy sending it to the needey, in central africa, or else-where, for free, because the can't run the latest version of M/S on it.

A perfectly good piece of equipment is now driven out of 50% plus of the main stream usage line, buy deliberate M/S Intell forced obsolesence.

Linux 64 bit, if you want it.

M/S 64 bit you will have no choice, thats the line were coming to. M/S are forcing it to be that way, it dosent need to be like that.
