301215 2004-12-11 01:53:00 Metla, use mostly for family history, with the number of e-mails coming down from chat rooms with websites' to lookup seems to drag the desktop down.

Also the ability to be able to show relations' when visiting them, how the various lines are doing.

301217 2004-12-11 02:21:00 ~~~~~ s y ~~~~~, I come from an accounting background, so it's pleasing to see where one can go awfully wrong, 1.4 = 2.6 for eg.

Similar to Assets to Liabilities ratio, but the other way round.

Thanks to all, for those very good responses.

Sorry, I should have made myself clearer. The Celeron Mobile (for notebooks only) 1.4Ghz roughly performs at the same level as a normal desktop Celeron 2.6Ghz~. However, as metla says, you can't just decide based on the Ghz figure. Obviously, the smaller the number, the less power it's going to consume, hence the 1.4 for the laptop. However, mobile processors may have bigger cache and all other technical stuff (someone else could explain...?) which makes up for it's 'low Ghz' figure.

To be honest, for the things that you do, you won't need a high end processor at all. Makes no difference -I can honestly say after buying a P4 3.0ghz LGA775 that it's not much faster than a P3 700mhz that I used to us. Why? Because I only go on the web, etc. However, I think what you need is memory and possibly hard drive which are the two most common 'parts' to be requiring upgrade for most users.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Acer ~ I was actually going to buy it myself. Gave up only because I'm not really needing a portable notebook for another year or two anyway.

301222 2004-12-11 22:51:00 Thank you to all those who replied .

Will sort out wifey's car and then decide on something definite .

Acer has always been a preference, Toshiba too and there is the ASUS as well .

Below is an example of being mobile with a note book, imagine the time saved:

Hi Les
No haven't been successful with finding the Will I am looking for and wonder what year we can apply for these as I am hoping to find around 1961 . Beatrice Alice C***** was her name and they lived in Kent . Maybe 1961 is just not available . I have tried to find where I can search but can only see very early stuff .

As for the Census yes there are loads of H******* on 1871 55 to be exact in Berkshire and 143 in Wiltshire so if you want me to extract these or look for specific names just let me know their ages as at 1871 and will do a copy and paste into word doc .

Do not have bro called Stephen .
Cheers Lorraine

Lorraine has sent over just a few of the 55 & 143 names listed .

I know how much time is involved as I have the World War 1 Cd of all NZ enlisted personel .
