301758 2004-12-10 10:31:00 without any info about your system etc - we cant really reach a conclusion , yet a library cd has bound to have been in many machines and been scratched in many places so this could easily be the problem. If the cd has a scratch in a certain place this could prevent some files from working and then not allowing the cd to work at all. noone (22)
301759 2004-12-10 10:36:00 hiya, sorry duh forgot that info lol, I am running windows xp, the disk has NO scratches and runs on my partners computer (wich is the same as mine) fine, even auto runs to start the game, the game is a kids game arthurs Kindergarten lisamarieo1 (301)
301760 2004-12-10 10:39:00 what sort of CD rom drive do you have , old cd roms may not be able to read new cd's and vice versa noone (22)
301761 2004-12-10 10:45:00 its a cd-RW Drive48x24x48 and the disk is fairly new (like in the last 2-3 months) so cant be that either and as i said my partners computer is exactly the same as mine and his reads it fine, so is there some setting under windows that can stop some disks not reading or something? lisamarieo1 (301)
301762 2004-12-10 10:52:00 have you tried another Cd in your drive to see if the if the drive is faulty? noone (22)
301763 2004-12-10 11:04:00 the drive works fine with all other disks i havent had a problem before, and still dont its just this one disk lol lisamarieo1 (301)
301764 2004-12-10 13:58:00 This is probably of little comfort but I have two CD ROM’s on the same machine and have the odd disk that the R/W won’t read, but the oldest, read only, has no problem with. :(

I guess the newest one hasn’t got as good an eye as the old fellow? :D

It’s a pity one can’t buy a test CD ROM that can measure the reading ability of your CD ROM.

Personally, I believe that a burned CD only has a life expectancy of a couple of years. ????

301765 2004-12-10 19:46:00 Try cleaning the inside area closest to the centre hole with a soft cloth and a mild detergent, or even just plain soap and water.

CD's read data from the centre outwards, starting with the table of contents or other identification data. This area can often get dirty with lubricants from the CD drive (I can't see ,how but it does happen) or even skin oils from people putting their finger through the centre hole.

Some players seeem to be better able to achieve focus through the contamination where others fail to read at all, and I have successfully read several apparently faulty data and audio CDs after cleaning so it is worth trying.

Cheers
