301567 2004-12-10 05:10:00 Some time ago there was discussion here as to flash drives replacing rotating platter drives.

the complaint/limit was stated as the poor re-write life of flash drives.

Considering the 8GB flash drive.

Does anyone know of the level of improvment, or lack of in flash drive re-wrtie cycles, compared to rotating platter drives.

301568 2004-12-10 08:06:00 I have been running a 256Mb flash card on my server in place of a hard drive for about 4 months and have had no problems with speed or R/W cycles. robsonde (120)

I believe one of the threads related to you project holds some
of the references to this read Write numbers issue.

An 8 gb Flash is large enough to run Bloatdoze with all real data stored in a switch on/off raid/jabod set up which has advantagess for laptop and power saving for desktop running on 12v solar systems, among others.

Hence the topic , apart from the advance in size issue.
