301513 2004-12-09 22:41:00 Whats the most popular, or most useful graphics program around? One that doesnt have many restrictions in style, moving things etc etc..
As I want to make some stuff (logos, headings ummm, but Photoshop 6 is restricting me as its not giving me the freedom I want....I know I might be asking too much but yeah...

I know nothing about Coral Draw, so if that is a good program then i would look into it more, but i just wanted to know what was good and stuff b4 looking in to what could be the wrong program

301514 2004-12-09 23:03:00 Care to elaborate on the freedom you are seeking? If you are only doing simple things like logos etc maybe The Gimp (The GNU Image Manipulation Program) would be right for you. Its biggest advantage is that it is free (well, it's GPL'd anyway).

As for the most popular program around well, I'd say your already using that.

301515 2004-12-09 23:03:00 We use Jasc Paintshop Pro 8 (auctally use 6 mostly as its quicker loading than 8 but cant buy v6 now). Seems to do all we need without to many issues.

There are trail versions available to see if it will do what you want - see http://www.jasc.com/ . I see V9 is out now but havent tried that one yet.

Hope this helps

301516 2004-12-09 23:05:00 Hi Chris,

I use Corel and find that it is really good. The 'essentials' program (I think arround $300)and should do all you want as long as you're not into web/html sort of stuff. It has a seperate drawing program that's good for logos etc and a photo program that has all you need for retouching/resizing photos (I do a lot of that and it's far better than photoshop). I think if you look at the corel site they have a tutorial and harvey Norman usually have the program in stock.

I have used the 'full blown' Photoshop but a) the price is very high unless you're a pro and b) there's nothing much that Corel wont do.

301518 2004-12-09 23:50:00 It seems to me that you need a graphics creation / design / paint programme not an image editor/manipulation programme which is where Photoshop's strength is. Murray P (44)
301519 2004-12-10 01:46:00 yeah creation/design/paint is what i'm after not manipulation etc...

well I want to be able to make logos, headings and stuff and i havent actually started anything, i meant freedom as in being able say i got a line of text i want to move, I want to be able to turn, twist, move, any way possible....(while keeping it readable) and being able to use any image, either made via program or taken from a outside source (cd, web etc etc)

I could try Photoshop and see how I go? Unless this explaintion helps u recommend some others...

301520 2004-12-10 01:56:00 The best programme for your needs is Coreldraw. It gives unlimited ability to create and manipulate shapes and text can even be turned into a "shape" and further altered. There is a cheap version of Corel 7 currently up for bids on Trademe. I hope this helps Cymbalz (4460)
