| 301486 | 2004-12-10 00:38:00 | No - not overheating now. Has it ever overheated? not to the point of failure but it was in a smallish case which caused it to alarm last summer. Built into a bigger case and has been going fine ever since (10+ months). Have unplugged everything but HDD and now get 8 beeps on failure. AMI bios says - 8 beeps - Display Memory Read/Write Failure - Indicates a memory error on the video adapter. Try re-seating the video card. If it still beeps, try replacing the video card or the memory on the video card. Had card out (using OB video) and was giving this error. Re seated card and still same error. I would doubt both OB and card have faulty memory. Maybe AGP controler or something??? |

Floppy light comes on, and stays on, generally indicates floopy hook up fault. Have you put a new generation floppy on an old board? somtimes this does not play well, If you have a very old floppy around try it and see. Too many odd problems, Take the advice of DRCSPY, which is also my common advice in this situation. Something has an intermittent fault, which indicates an impending death, how old are all the cables, particularly the floppy cable?? D. |

| 301489 | 2004-12-10 01:23:00 | I have taken everything out execpt HDD - still giving probs Board is only 2-3 yrs old (GA 7zm) so dont think "new" floppy will be an issue. Dont have any old floppys around that i can safely say are 100%. Have put in a new floppy cable - no better. Other cables are same age as machine 2.5yrs. Am thinking new mobo would be quickest and easist way to fix - not worth the time investment to keep chasing tail really. |

Many dont want to be introduced to these logicall economics, So I do not suggest them anymore. Put it in the cupboard for a while, if its not the hardware, breake it in half so it dosent end up on SCAMME, and put it in the recycle. D. |

| 301491 | 2004-12-10 03:14:00 | heck and i was hoping you were going to bid on it when i listed it on scamme. I know you are hoping to get your hands on this gem of technology :) | Porky71 (6522) | ||
| 301492 | 2004-12-10 03:18:00 | One beep, then floppy read - even though it's not in the boot sequence you say? Then repeating? This sounds like a classic example of a Boot-block attempt. I think you may have a somehow intermittant BIOS. Boot-block technology is where if the boot block detects that the main BIOS is corrupted, it will boot off the very small & basic Boot Block, give one beep, read the floppy, and execute the autoexec.bat file on the floppy. Boot blocks can only use ISA video cards, or perhaps PCI on newer machines that don't have ISA ports, so in most cases you won't see anything on the screen. Since your PC boots sometimes, your BIOS is obviously NOT corrupted, meaning that it may be intermittant. Check the BIOS chip, or possibly reseat it. Sounds like a long shot, and probably is, but that is what it sounds like. Try putting a bootable disk in and see what happens. |
