302115 2004-12-11 21:44:00 Hi all ,

Every time i partition my 80gig hdd ( Win 2k , SP4 ) , the computer dies on the next restart - Nt Loader is missing / corrupt. I have used a number of partitioning software including partition magic and the windows partition thing yet the same thing always happens. Does anyone know what is wrong - im getting sick of reinstalling the OS all the time

302117 2004-12-11 22:21:00 firstly what are you trying to do ??

if you already reloaded windows why not just scrub it, use a boot disk to partition the drive then reinstall the OS.

302118 2004-12-11 23:42:00 i am trying to either format or change the size of one of my partitions of my 80gig hdd - not the one that windows is installed on. The first time it happened i did all my partitioning when Windows was not installed but since i am going to install linux soon i partitioned my drive ( not the one that the OS was installed on ) and then i restarted and windows didnt work noone (22)
302119 2004-12-12 01:02:00 I've ben told, and it has worked for me, that you have to error check and defrag before using partition magic.

Also, I believe that you have to have at least version 8 for XP, so maybe the same for 2K?

Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer .
When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key .
Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows .
Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter .
You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password .
Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk . In the
below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter "E" . This
letter may be different on your computer .

copy e:\i386\ntldr c:
copy ntdetect . com c:

Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the
computer and reboot .

Misconfiguration with the boot . ini file

Edit the boot . ini on the root directory of the hard disk drive and verify that it is
pointing to the correct location of your Windows Operating System and that the
partitions are properly defined

possibly this last one maybe more relevant for you . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

302123 2004-12-12 05:06:00 There is a way of booting into XP & presumably W2K with a single boot disk
