Murray, is correct here. When linux gets "Point Click" down good, then M/S will have REAL trouble. D. |

| 301931 | 2004-12-12 07:05:00 | Murray: I agree! However its not Bill I dislike, in fact I think he's a great entrepeneur! Its Microsoft as a whole I dislike, for software that has hole after hole and such a slow release cycle. That and the *******s who still ship Windows XP on PC's without patching it first so its basically unable to go online! drb1: Try Linspire Gentoo is moving that way too with guitoo being a great front-end! Now we just need a great/easy installer for it :-) |

As I said, as a Hurricanes fan, I wouldn't dream of joining in a Blues thread.... I'never lower myself. BTW, for Willie: Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely - ask Helen ;) Bring back Workbench 3! |

| 301933 | 2004-12-12 07:20:00 | Chill, Next month I'm going to increase my cap and download a whole pile of differnt distros. I will try Linspire for one of my freinds, he wants to leave M/S but Point Click, is where he's at, and probably never going to progress from. His position "I use it, when they produce a product that I can use, I will take it" I feel he needs something a little better than MDK 10. I will set him a multi boot first, so I dont have to visit 3 times a week from day one. How's the usb boot deal going I may wish to try someting simular with my Presario 2500, it claims "Other devices" in it's Bios Boot List??? I see those Dell D505 have USB Boot in Bios. D. |

I'm not getting at Mr Gates personally, I don't know the man, although I know quite a bit about him, I've therefore concluded that I probably would not like him, but that's not been tested yet ;) > Its Microsoft as a whole I dislike, for software that > has hole after hole and such a slow release cycle. That's pretty much where I stand on the matter. I do however have an aversion to some of the business practices that are used, not unique to MS though and if you spent your life wringing your hands every time someone or something pulled a bit of a swifty (which despite the preceding, sometimes you cant's help but admire), well I think we know the types, full of angst and good busy body intentions. > That and the *******s who still ship Windows XP on > PC's without patching it first so its basically > unable to go online! Yup, It's not a car or health threat as such, but this should come under the heading "duty of care", the average user being a bit like a learner driver or a gun user, albeit without the same dire consequences for making a little mistake or not knowing how the thing reacts in certain situations. |

I could congratulate Osamad bil laden for giving the Americans an overdue wake up call, right before I gave him a lead injection to . D . |

This is a sotware (ask bb) thread in a computer forum, most of us still rely to a large extent on MS products, like it or not. > BTW, for Willie: Power corrupts, and absolute power > corrupts absolutely - ask Helen ;) Average sized, busy body, fish in a small but very nice pond. One that is not immune to a good cleansing flood. > Bring back Workbench 3! |

| 301937 | 2004-12-12 07:53:00 | I just cannot for the life of me figure out while MS don't make their next OS based on the lessons of the last few years, Rather they seek to release the same bloated code with many more bells and whistles which in the real world will mean more bloat, and more vulnerabilities First thing they need to do is remove IE from the OS, let it run on top of the OS like a real program, and then they need to have every single bell and whistle (services) turned off my default, and not let any program alter the registry without getting the go ahead from the user. They are so arrogant they would ignore every lesson, and repeat there mistakes 10 fold. Infact Im pretty sure they are unable to comprehend there is any lesson to be learned. All the while stomping over dozens of smaller companies because MS have the money. |

| 301938 | 2004-12-12 08:33:00 | Metla, Its a Corporate beast gone wrong . We have spoken, pay and heed our word . Or at the end of the day, perhaps they actually dont have the skill's to scratch build a good secure O/S from the ground up? They're a Patent Owning, Bullying, Dominant Corporate, They're trying to do the home entertainment unit, and diversify into various other fields, and getting it all wrong . Perhaps like HP the core of the managment dosent have the real skills, and have really collectivly "Lost it" . They just happen to be that big and Cash rich that its going to take a long time to unravell, but just like South Africa is, so too will M/S, unless there is some real damage controll managment, and some "real" new products . D . |

I'm just wondering why they'd want to. But I think Wee Willy answered it himself - he has so much hate the he's just got to rant. |
