302946 2004-12-15 22:15:00 Great New Forum

Anyway , i want to buy a new graphics card until i can afford to buy a new duel core (hopefully ) pci express system. I have the max of $250 to buy this and have currently the following choices

Radeon 9600pro 256megs
Radeon 9600XT Ultra 128meg
Legend 9800se 128meg
G Force 5700 Ep/xt/le 256megs

Thanks , all help will be great

302947 2004-12-15 22:19:00 I would be inclined to go with the 9600XT Ultra. I have heard that the 9600XT's are one of the best value for money graphic cards on the market. I personally haven't heard of anyone needing a 256mb card. ~sy~ (95)
302948 2004-12-15 22:20:00 yeah thats what i was thinking as well - its the most expensive though but i think i will be worth it noone (22)
302949 2004-12-15 22:21:00 Out of that list I would go for the 9600xt - it should far out preform the 9800 SE (also known as S**t Edition - use you imagination). HadO (796)
302950 2004-12-15 22:22:00 Well, the 9800SE cards have worse performance than the 9600series, so avoid that. The Geforce FX series is rubbish, unless of course you will be running linux or primarily opengl games, which is when you'll want a Geforce FX. You don't need 256mb on a 9600pro, makes no difference as the chip doesn't have the power to use more than 128mb anyway... so that leaves you with one option, the 9600XT. Go with that. Zygar (29)
302951 2004-12-15 22:25:00 i heard the Gigabyte ultra 9600xt was the best type - also comes with three games noone (22)
302952 2004-12-15 23:03:00 easy choice

Radeon 9600XT Ultra 128meg

Provided Ultra doesn't mean kneecapped, The marketing behind video cards is a bit smelly sometimes.

The Legend 9800se would be best used as fuel to start a small fire.....

302953 2004-12-15 23:05:00 cool , thanks for that all noone (22)
302954 2004-12-16 03:33:00 if i had another $50 (300) do you all still think i should get the same card - excluding gst and all that extra stuff noone (22)
302955 2004-12-16 03:36:00 If you get some model names we can look at them but realistically apart from the card that was recommended your only next logical step would be up to a 9800PRO (unsure on price these days). HadO (796)
