2004-12-13 06:34:00 | Hi Does anybody notice the very slow speeds in the evening on XTRA Jetstream, on the nzdsl speedtest nzdsl.co.nz 500k test i get around 64 - 250 Kbps, yet I asked a friend with their Jetstream Connection with Actrix as ISP to do the same test they get 2000 - 2036 Kbps constantly at the peak periods, so it can't really be a random lapse in bandwidth demand, we are both on the JS Plus plan 2m/192k, I can't figure it out! I get about 3000 - 4000 Kbps on JS Games tests so its not a hardware or line issue. So what, Xtra prioritise other ISPs over XTRA? No way, so what could it be? Thanks in advance

2004-12-13 06:42:00 | No problem here, just tested at 3222 Kbps, but that's on full speed Xtra Jetstream | neddy (2192) | |
2004-12-13 06:47:00 | Below is the data used to calculate your download speed: * Download time: 4.197 seconds * Size of file: 1000 Kilobytes * Estimated line speed: 1944.2 (kilobits/second) * Estimated line speed: 238.3 (kilobytes/second) Thats on 2meg. 7:46 pm

2004-12-13 06:55:00 | Yeah kinda as i expected, although ringing xtra will do nothing, just the usual: While we always strive to provide a consistent service, there are a number of factors that influence reliability . For this reason, we do not guarantee bandwidth, latency (delay) or bit rate through our broadband network to Xtra at any one point in time . Xtra JetStream users and other customers using the IP (Internet Protocol) network share bandwidth through the network . This means the Internet service performance you experience is affected by the activity of other users on the network . For example, at peak times the performance of the Internet service can be significantly slower than at off-peak times . So they will say not our problem, btw im in hamilton, maybe its happening here only?

2004-12-13 07:00:00 | Throughput can be affected by many things, not the least of which is your local geography. Telecom have over 1000 DSLAMs providing service across NZ, and at peak times your own one may well suffer due to the heavy load. I suggest that if the problem is consistent over several nights you document it as much as possible and report a fault via your ISP. There is no service guarantee on JetStream (it's a "best efforts" service) but you should get better than 64-250k on a 2M plan | stevee (1780) | |
2004-12-13 07:10:00 | Yes it started happening after the plan changed from js surf flate rate to js plus, I also get invalid username/password errors, having to connect about 5 - 6 times before getting on, again usually only during peak periods. The actrix customer i mentioed lives a few houses down from me and i am assuming he is terminated at the same dslam as me though i could be wrong. | pleasehelp (882) | |
2004-12-13 07:16:00 | I'm thinking Xtra's fault here. Same plan, same DSLAM, fine line speed - same data provider (Telecom). It must be the ISP. Complain

2004-12-13 07:50:00 | Sorry no slow down here on xtra. Your line speed is approximately 1949.4 Kbps or 238.9 K bytes/sec PeebZ

2004-12-13 07:52:00 | I am having the same problem around 200kbps for the last couple of days when I should get at least 1mb. Still waiting on the line to speak to xtra for the last 20 minutes. The problem with mine seems to happen after the jetstream network problem last week. Anyone else have the same problem? Tried both dynalink and netgear routers and both record slow speed. | ephesus (2509) | |
