thanks :D I've been trying to do the same thing myself via the the shutdown command over a workgroup
"shutdown -s -m \\computername"
It seems that remote shutdown in winxp works over a domain not a workgroup

Unless you can figure out how to setup a domain, I think your only other solution is to download and install some kind of program that can shutdown computers over a network

304471 2004-12-17 08:24:00 well since i downloaded Win2k Resource Kit

there is a neat program called shutdown.exe

I go into run and then type shutdown.exe and a lilttle box comes up and i type the computer name, and any message I wish to have display on the victum computer and then the countdown. Very handy

Three words, shutdown.exe, batch file, scheduled task.
*evil laugh*
Alternitivly a shutdown batch could be placed in the startup folder of the start menu

304474 2004-12-17 10:01:00 You could try, start - run and enter command

When you get the DOS window popup, enter in the following..
shutdown /?

This will give you all the possibilities for that command.
