| 305084 | 2004-12-18 02:26:00 | Im going to uni next year.hostel.I will get a phone line but i won't have a phone.Are there any software I can use to subsitute the computer as a phone?I have a microphone for the computer.CAn I use it as normal talking on the fone and perhaps use the speaker or modem as to hear the other person talking? Can I send an email to a fax machine?Like using a normal email client like thunderbird.Wanting to do a TT transfer eveyr 3 weeks and don't want to rush out to town to pay $7 for a fax.Are there anyway I can type in a number using my email client and it will go through to a fax machine? |

| 305085 | 2004-12-18 02:33:00 | You can buy a phone for $10 at the Warehouse. That shouldn't break your bank.;-) Phones make very good phones. Computers don't. They are good at being computers. You can send a fax from a computer. |

| 305086 | 2004-12-18 02:50:00 | I remembered my dad used to use hook his computer up to the fax machine and then the fax machine would fax it thru to the other person's fax machine. Anybody know any software that can send fax direct using a computer? |

| 305088 | 2004-12-18 03:20:00 | XP, if u have it has a fax program u can install. Also, programs like Winfax let u fax, if u have a faxmodem installed. I had a program here called Talkworks, which let u use a computer as a phone, fax and answering machine. If your modem is a fax/data/voicemodem. When this was installed. You had a phone come on the screen, you could record your own message, so it answers with your voice, or a wav file, if u werent at home. It was quite good! Winfax 10.03 lets u fax to email addresses as well. |

Just can't get away from the computer can ya ;) Phones are cheap -might even find them at the 123 dollar shops (although it'll be more like $10) I can give you a personal guarantee that youll have more satisfaction out of buying the phone than upgrading your computer. :) | ~sy~ (95) | ||
| 305090 | 2004-12-18 07:09:00 | I tried to run my PC as a phone, because I was sick of running three metres every time it rang. I didn't get very far - I had a 56k HAM modem from DSE (*shame*). With the software that came with it (I forget now, it was some ancient Windows 95 program) I could easily hear people who called, but I couldn't place calls effectively without the headset (a certified one). | Growly (6) | ||
